La hoja contiene: Taninos (2,6-11,2%), principalmente taninos hidrolizables tipo elagitaninos, ácido gálico y egálico libres. También contiene flavonoides (0,29-0,57%): de tipo 3-glucósido, 3-galactósido, Otros constitu- yentes: ácido ascórbico, minerales (calcio, magnesio, zinc) y pequeñas cantidades de compuestos volátiles.
Las hojas de frambueso se usan tradicionalmente como astringentes (antidiarreico, cicatrizante), antiinfla- matorio, diurético.
La Agencia Europea del Medicamento (EMA) aprueba el uso tradicional de la hoja de frambueso para el alivio de los dolores menstruales, las inflamaciones de la boca o garganta y para el tratamiento sintomático de la diarrea.
